ProteinQure is automating the computational design of protein based drugs by developing an algorithm that scales to large proteins and automates a large fraction of the protein drug discovery process. The company's technology combines quantum annealing and reinforcement learning to lower the cost and increase speed of the drug development.
ProteinQure’s technology works with the goal of curing a certain disease by finding the right key (protein) for the lock (biological target) that causes a given disease in the human body. Their core technology works in three steps: protein folding, scoring, and optimization. Using quantum computers, ProteinQure simulates a key and the 3D structure of a protein using a process called protein folding. Calculations are then carried out to score how well the initial key fits into the given lock. Based on this score, the software can optimize the components of the key (by folding a slightly different protein) and try to determine if the new key fits the lock better. By repeating this cycle, ProteinQure is able to design the perfect key for a given lock, and ultimately cure the disease.
